My Indole Ring (1966-1969)Excellent album from this Canadian (Vancouver) band that had nothing released at the time.
This sets the record straight and shows what a great west coast influenced band they were.
Lots of great distorted guitar and organ mixed with some deep acid touches make this an absolute winner. This band played regularly at the 'retinal circus'.

Flower Power, that give the impression its quite a decent album. Its actually a pretty square
sounding 'twangy' instrumental record that won't even touch the sides of any lightweight tripper, but for a laugh with your friends, its O.K. These same session hacks have been linked with various other Exploito records like 'Animated Egg' and 'T. swift & The Electric Bag'.

This is a real twisted album. Hats off to these Colombians who knew how to handle their magic plants by the sound of it.

They have an obvious blues influence, but the album has a lovely garage/Psych vibe running throughout it.

The Ventures - Super Psychedelics (1967)The kings of the instrumental go full out to create an excellent Exploito album with titles like 'Endless Dream', 'Vibrations' and 'Psyched-Out' to wet your appetite. Its up there with the best of the Exploito/Psych stuff like 'The Undergrounds - Psychedelic Visions' and the 'Animated Egg' etc. Containing fuzz guitar, Sitar And Theremin, and a few flower power cover versions to fill it out, it's well worth a listen.

Full of atmospheric meanderings and abstract delights, rejected in '67 by International Artists for its lack of commercial (?) potential, the album didn't get released until 1995 through Drag City Records. Similar work to free-noise ensembles like Derek Bailey and the Music Improvisation Company, Nihilist Spasm Band and Intersystems. Not to everyones taste but an important piece of the Krayola History nevertheless.........

LES ALEXANDRINS (Les Alexandrins..et / Les Alexandrins dans Double Jeu)
Quebec Coffee-house chansonnier/ pop duo Luc Cousineau and Lise Vachon were getting decidedly '"groovy" in 1969 when they released this platter for the local Quebec arm of Polydor. Its a disc of two halves literally. The first "Les Alexandrins et.. "is a collaboration with wordsmith Louis Gauthier. The second side "Double Jeu" is a collaboration with female writer/broadcaster Francoise Loranger. "Double Jeu" was an experimental theatre piece created by Loranger. Hip n' happenin' musical backing is provided by the cream of Quebec's thriving 'underground' music scene of the time Jacques Perron, Maurice Richard, Guy Thouin. All had also worked on the the seminal Robert Charlebois discs of the late 60's which revolutionised Quebec pop music.Posted & Reviewed by Inner Beard

The second side contains some really cool strip joint Psych. With moog work from Paul Beaver, it shows the Flag did have at least one foot in the psych pool,

This is the original version of the album that was squeezed down to form the 'Astro sounds From The Year 2000' l.p. (another classic, also on our blog). This a Procol Harum/Traffic style album, Indeed, Ray Royer & Bobby Harrison were reputedly in an early Procol line up. If you like those bands then you will probably like this. It has some interesting stuff on it, but the sound is a little flat (budget studio job ???)

This record is a trip! from the hypnotic opener 'Radar Eyes', to the killer droning closer 'Permanent Green Light' the group manage to incorporate avant-garde freakouts, insane ramblings, Noise and Psych rock. They even manage to throw in a Beatles cover along the way. Similar vibe to 'Red Crayola', 'The Fugs' and 'The Shaggs'.

They have taken the master tapes of the animted egg album and added strings and a whole bunch of tape phasing to most of the tracks, creating a totally tripped out feel. Loads of great guitar by session hacks to take you to the hilt, and feel the phasing take your head for a ride beyond....

Zodiac - Cosmic Sounds (1967)Featuring involvement from Mort Garson, Paul Beaver and Jaques Wilson, this is another one of those great exploito albums that slid out of the dark in '67 to scare us. Trips through various moods that they think correspond with the given starsigns relevent to the listener, and some chat that supposedly relates to your sign. In a perverse experiment, i played this album to a few friends and they all said that their favourite track was their own starsign !!! Give it a shot and see what you think, the people on the record might just be talking to you.
